Amy Valentine couldn't escape from her burning apartment building in the 3400 block of Kutztown Road in Muhlenberg Township on Friday, Nov. 1, a GoFundMe campaign started by Valentine's daughter, Lexi Shuey, states.

"I'm raising funds for my mom's funeral. These are words no child should ever have to say," Shuey said on the campaign page.

Valentine had a partial handicap and lived alone when the fire tore through her apartment building, according to Shuey. The cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to a WFMZ report.

"My mom didn’t deserve what happened to her, and no one should have to endure the pain of knowing their loved one faced such a terrifying end," Shuey said.

Valentine was a graduate of Alvernia College, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Marketing, according to her obituary, courtesy of Thomas J. Parambo Funeral Home. She owned and operated First Class Masonry and a gourmet pizza truck called "Cutie Pies." She was also a cook at the Fleetwood American Legion, Kutztown University, and Sly Fox Restaurant.

Shuey's GoFundMe campaign raised $4,890, almost $2,000 more than its $3,000 goal, as of Friday, Nov. 15.
